Abstract

Although Mexico City presents a deficient integral management of urban solid waste, due to the great generation of these, the problem is increased by the proximity that exists with the state of Mexico; Entities that occupy the 1st and 2nd place respectively with the highest generation of waste, constituting the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico the first generator of urban solid waste in the country. That is why in the present work an analysis of the situation was carried out in relation to the economic resource destined to the management of waste and its relationship with the negative impacts on the environment, in recent years, to determine if the lack of investment in environmental issues is the main cause of environmental deterioration. Even though there are not enough economic and environmental indicators that allow us to identify to what extent the negative impact on the environment is reduced or lessened, an inversely proportional relationship was detected in which environmental degradation has been increasing while public financing to avoid environmental impacts have been decreasing, which could be resolved with the implementation of public policies aimed at improving the management of urban solid waste.
