Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze the insertion of Mexico in the global economy. For this, selected foreign trade indicators are used in a comparative way. The results show that the total trade balance of goods and services presents a permanent deficit that only disappears in crisis years, while the Mexico-United States trade has a permanent and growing surplus since 1995; the loss of participation of imports from the United States in the total imports of Mexico is observed, in contrast, the participation of imports from China is accelerated; throughout the study period, at least 50% of total exports and more than 40% of total imports consisted of machinery and transport equipment, Mexico's trade is fundamentally intra-industrial, exporting and importing the same category of goods.
