Trade liberation to achieve the sustainable development goals?
Abstract
There is an inconclusive discussion regarding the effects that exist between the commercial opening and the growth of the countries and the develop¬ment conditions of their inhabitants. This document analyzes the effects of trade and trade liberalization on the Sustainable Development Goals and the feasibility of the WTO proposals. Through an integrated data panel with 29 countries and a 10-year horizon (2005-2015), six models were analyzed and it was shown that trade opening does not clearly favor the reduction of poverty, malnutrition and inequality, which makes it difficult believe that they reach these three SDGs.
