Gender equality in positions of power and learning mathematics
Abstract
The objective of the present research is to conduct a literature review to study the impact of gender equity on positions of power and the learning of mathematics, analyzing the gender stereotypes that women face in their academic, social, familial, and labor lives. The research shows that from childhood, children are taught gender roles and this continues during adolescence, where women are primarily evaluated for their beauty and ability to care for the family. Additionally, gender or race stereotypes are common in determining performance in mathematics; the results also indicate an insufficient representation of women in STEM fields, and gender discrimination remains a problem in women’s professional development.
