The impact of migration and remittances on distribution and sources of income: the mexican rural case

El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar el impacto de la migración y las remesas sobre las distintas fuentes de ingreso de los hogares rurales mexicanos, así como las implicaciones de estos impactos en la distribución del ingreso de las comunidades de origen. Utilizando datos de la Encuesta Nacional a Hogares Rurales de México (ENHRUM), los resultados del análisis muestran que las remesas nacionales y el número predicho de los migrantes internos impactan positivamente los ingresos provenientes de las actividades ganaderas. Sin embargo, las remesas internacionales impactan negativamente a esta fuente de ingresos originado por la pérdida de fuerza laboral de algún miembro del hogar. Los resultados también soportan la hipótesis de la new economics of labor migration (NELM) que establece que las remesas contribuyen a eliminar restricciones en diferentes tipos de actividades productivas que los hogares rurales realizan.
